Brighton: Seaside Energy, Creative Roots & Coastal Charm

Catching the train south to the Sussex coast brings an immediate rush of salt air and vibrant creative energy. Brighton has always held deep personal significance as the backdrop to Tamara's Master’s degree in Digital Media Arts. Returning here combines seaside nostalgia with a fierce independent spirit, running through maze-like lanes, eccentric Regency architecture, and wide-open pebbled beaches.

Things to Do & Coastal Highlights

  • University of Brighton & Creative Hubs: Revisiting Tamara’s alma mater, where she completed her MA in Digital Media Arts. The university's artistic pulse is woven directly into the city, from dynamic gallery spaces and design studios to the bustling student cafés where creative ideas take shape.

  • The Royal Pavilion & Gardens: Take in the extraordinary Indo-Saracenic palace built for King George IV. Its exotic domes, minarets, and ornate Asian-inspired architecture look like something lifted from another continent, offering an incredible, unexpected visual contrast set right in the middle of a British seaside town.

  • The Lanes & North Laine: Winding through the labyrinth of narrow historic alleys and bohemian streets. Between independent boutiques, flea markets, antique stalls, and vibrant street art murals, the area offers an endlessly engaging backdrop for candid street photography and walking tours.

  • Brighton Palace Pier & The Pebble Beach: Walk out over the English Channel on the iconic Victorian pleasure pier. The neon glow of retro arcades, fairground rides suspended over the water, and the wide sweep of the pebbled shoreline lined with striped deckchairs capture quintessential British seaside heritage.

  • Hove Promenade & Colourful Beach Huts: Take a slower stroll west along the wide coastal promenade toward Hove, framing the iconic row of pastel-painted wooden beach huts against open skies and crashing waves during golden hour.
