Auckland, New Zealand, is a stunning, water-bound city built across a dormant volcanic field, perfectly balancing a vibrant urban centre with immediate access to wild, rugged nature. Often called the "City of Sails," it is defined by its twin harbours, towering skyline, and relaxed Kiwi atmosphere. However, this was one of those trips where I didn't manage to get many shots. Rather than focusing on framing the perfect shot, I ended up completely immersed in the experience—though I will absolutely be sure to bring the camera along to capture it properly when I go again.

Highlights from Our Days in Auckland

  • The Viaduct Harbour: Walking along the bustling waterfront, taking in the impressive yachts, and soaking up the lively dining and social scene right on the water's edge.

  • The Sky Tower: Admiring the sheer height of the iconic tower that dominates the skyline, serving as a constant compass point while exploring the city streets.

  • Mount Eden (Maungawhau): Taking advantage of the city's unique geography by heading up to the highest natural vantage point to look down into the grass-covered volcanic crater and out across the sprawling harbors.

  • The Maritime Atmosphere: Experiencing the strong connection to the sea that defines the city, with the Hauraki Gulf right on the doorstep offering a gateway to islands and coastal escapes.

  • An Unplugged Experience: Deliberately stepping away from the viewfinder to simply enjoy the laid-back culture and incredible landscapes, saving the serious photography for the next trip.
