Dubai

Dubai is a staggering showcase of hyper-modern ambition rising out of the Arabian desert, defined by its soaring futuristic skyline, monumental engineering feats, and expansive coastline. Exploring the striking sprawl of Palm Jumeirah, passing by the massive maritime scale of Mina Jebel Ali, and venturing into the historic and cultural contrast of neighboring Sharjah made for a fascinating journey. However, this was one of those trips where I didn't manage to get many shots. With so much sheer scale to take in, I spent more time simply taking it all in rather than framing up compositions, but I will definitely be sure to bring the camera along to capture it all properly when going again.

Highlights from Our Days in Dubai

  • The Palm Jumeirah: Taking in the engineering marvel of the palm-tree-shaped archipelago, walking along the waterfront, and admiring the sweeping views across the Arabian Gulf.

  • The Scale of Mina Jebel Ali: Seeing the colossal port infrastructure and maritime gateway of Jebel Ali firsthand, reflecting the emirate's rapid rise as a global crossroads.

  • A Day Trip to Sharjah: Stepping into the neighboring emirate of Sharjah to explore its traditional heritage areas, renowned museums, and vibrant cultural landmarks.

  • Futuristic Cityscapes: Gazing up at the hyper-modern architectural landmarks, world-record towers, and sleek glass facades that define the city's desert skyline.

  • Taking It In Without the Lens: Experiencing the city without being constantly glued to the viewfinder, leaving plenty of architectural angles, night scenes, and desert perspectives to properly photograph on the next visit.
